Not much competition, obviously. Gary Montgomery kept the score down while Danny North and Isaiah Rankin ran about a bit more than all the other losers, but Taylor nicks it for dauntless attitude and a bit of skill.
"These are professional footballers. We can't concede like that. The fourth goal was just a joke."
"Grimsby showed they could raise their game for the big teams as they have beaten Doncaster, Huddersfield and Carlisle in the cups so we were hoping that wouldn't be the case tonight."
The fittest and strongest side the Mariners have faced all season. They were massive, and fairly direct, but they moved well off the ball and could mix it up with incisive passing. Reminded us of Russell Slade's Town side at their most effective. Promotion certs or just capitalising on our spectacular ineptitude? Hard to tell, but they'll end up in the play-offs at least.
Mr K Hill (Herts)
Darlo's frequent shoving and bundling over was mostly unpunished while Town were penalised for the slightest contact. It took an hour for any sort of balance to emerge. In short, the referee had neither the competence to treat the two sides even-handedly nor the compassion to get it wrong in favour of the vastly inferior team. This vile display of one-eyed wazzockry earns him a CA rating of 3.25.
Well, it makes a change from Darlington coming to Blundell Park and winning 1-0.
