I'm not going to beat about the bush with musings on Mackreth, or by ruminating on Robertson. It's Josh Gowling. OK? He was more than OK, more Milleresque with a hint of the Pondian.
"I felt we started the game right and then it slowed a bit, but that was the problem. I think the lads felt like they were in control, but it was too slow.
"The longer it went on I did feel that our fitness and fresh legs would come through and again I think that showed."
With nothing to beat, Town's remnants and off-cuts opted to slow cook the kebabs on the barbie and simmer the vegetables on the primer stove.
It was like a pre-season friendly against Winterton Rangers reserves: Town should have scored ten, such was the physical and structural superiority. McKeown touched the ball twice, Lennie successfully avoided a double hat-trick, Mackreth was stuck in a hellish time loop of rotten under-hit crossing, and Pittman was virtually invisible. I think everyone was a bit too bored.
Josh Gowling was rather imperious: taking the tat out of Toto. Keep him. Keep him in the team.
Let's be positive and pleasant. They were better than they were at Blundell Park.
The Alfretters just looked underpowered everywhere. Neither long-ball nutters nor short passing flutterers, they were betwixt and between everything. Bereft on the left, ropey on the right. muddled in the middle and atrophied in attack. They had nothing of note. I'm not going to waste your time deconstructing Nicky's non-entities.
No identity, no personality, no hope. They looked like the fifth worst team in the league and next year's relegation.
Dissipated by Dartford disappointment and Alfreton's cultural bowel.
Mr D England (S Yorks)
What a delight it is to say that the man in black avoided a ring of ire. I'm trying, I'm trying to find any grrrsome moments. There aren't any. The heat addled his brain into supreme adequacy: 8.888.
Half a team, half-paced and half-hearted before half a crowd of half-cut halfwits.
