Cod Almighty | Match Stats

Tuesday 17 October 2017

Division 4

Cheltenham Town 2 Pell (26), Winchester (85)

Grimsby Town 3 Dembele (13, 44), Collins (42)

Attendance: 2469 (179 away fans)

Cod Almighty man of the match: Siriki Dembele

Siriki was the main ingredient in a first half that no woman, man or child supporter of Grimsby Town believed was possible with these players. Delightful football at a pace.

Our gaffer says

It's the "our gaffer says" quiz. Which quote is from which game, Cheltenham or Crawley? You decide.

"Hey look, it wasn't very entertaining" [more on this]

"It was interesting that the first person I walked into this morning thought it was a very entertaining game" [more on this]

Their gaffer says

"We started off too slow and too weak and they were winning the battles all over the field, and that's why they got their opportunities. We defended like schoolboys as a group, so days off are cancelled for a little while and we've got to get back to the good defending we had three days ago."

Us

The first half was a beauty to behold. Whether this was exaggerated by the recent drought of football or whether it truly was beautiful is difficult to know. One thing that is certain: it was football played at a pace. Dixon had an excellent game, as did Luke Summerfield. The game gave reason to believe that the current management team can and hopefully will serve up football that will make you smile.

Them

They're still the same lot we played last year, but we were better than them. Better footballers playing better football, and Whaddon Road was a particularly good place to feel that feeling. Harry Pell cupped his ears in a Hurstilian manner and Danny Wright keeps taking the protein shakes and the 179 went home with a smile.

Grimsby 'til I die... or cry?

"No end product, that lad. Don't get the hype." You what Baz?

Official warning
