Cod Almighty man of the match: Luke Summerfield

It would be easy to name Summers again. It would also be wholly appropriate. Underpinned everything we did well and covered every blade of grass. Sam Jones ran him a close second. They are the best two players at the club.

Our gaffer says

Mr Slade recognises the turgid last few weeks and the difference a week makes.

"What a difference a week makes. We've managed to score five goals in two games."

Their gaffer says

Frank and honest from Mark McGhee.

"I knew it would be difficult. This isn't going to be a triumphant season."

Us

The early goal was the perfect way to continue from Tuesday. They tried to play football. We did play football. Energy and clever attacking play just make anyone watching happy to be there. Summerfield, Jones, Dembele, well, all of them gave good displays. Silky's instep magic for the second will be a well played gif.

I missed the foul as I was in the bar… but I'm told the red card was justified. It must have been a good spot to deny Mitch Rose a third for offside from a corner.

Them

You can smell blood sometimes. And with Matt's early bullet header from a perfectly struck corner, you always felt we would come out on top. How often do we say that?

Their left-back was nearer the tunnel than Dembele by the time Jones stroked in with a slight deflection for the second. He should have carried on running.

Their spartan crowd added to the dominant feeling, and being among the vocal 677 felt like it was the season before. All that hope and optimism crept back.

Grimsby 'til I die... or cry?

Jagers in, Fenty out. Nothing's changed off the pitch.

Official warning

Mr G Ward (Kent)

He had previous, but his convictions were well spent. Got the key moments right. I bet his assistant did as well for the disallowed third... 7.1.
