Tips for 27-28 November 2004 - the result
Andy Holt
1 December 2004
Bugger. It's Wednesday again. And I'm only just getting round to writing this. Sorry. Things have been mental here though. My boss is away and I'm busy doing his work as well as trying to put the finishing touches to a presentation on the effect of sea surface temperatures in the Nino 1+2 Pacific region on oil yield from the Peruvian anchovy catch. Fascinating stuff, I can tell you. Anyway, here we go, with a reminder of last week's bets to start. For a change. Oh, and in case you have forgotten, this week Denby is representing the CA readership.

Starting with Mat 'I Once Scored None, You Know' Hare. Three out of ten for him.
It's all gone horribly wrong. He got one in perm one and two in perm, which is
nice from an aesthetic point of view, but does nothing for his balance. Well,
I say nothing. In actual fact it ensures that he loses his whole fiver. Not good.
FART managed six - average, by its own standards. Two in perm one was disappointing. Arsenal
and Celtic losing on the same weekend - how often does that happen? Perm two was
better though. Four matches correct there give the statistical system £3.24.
Finally, Denby. A very admirable seven for him. Sadly the correct matches were
arranged 4-3 rather rather than 5-2, so his return wasn't ever going to be spectacular,
but £3.72 is better than a complete loss, I guess. Eh, Mat? In Denby's own
words: "I should've known not to trust Bradford. I've never forgiven them
for sending us down with soul-glo wearer Chris Kamara in charge. Carlisle can
beat the real Grimsby Town but not our play-off 1998 side, aka York City. Celtic,
well, I've never really understood Scottish football. There's just no need for
it. And Graham Alexander Gordon doesn't sound as enthusiastic once he reaches Forfar
4 East Fife 5." Just what I was going to say. He goes on: "But 7 out
of 10 is a decent result and appears to be far better than Cod Almighty's resident
tipper Mat Hare (whose name isn't dissimilar to current holiday destination of
choice, Harare). However, I understand his score this week is far better than a
recent zero so I doff my hypothetical hat in his general direction, and then laugh
non-hypothetically." True, Denby, three is better than zero. With that sort
of analysis I bet you got a good grade in GCSE maths.
Denby concludes his email: "A quick mention to Mariners 'favourite' Harry Redknapp who quit his job
at Pompey to concentrate on newspaper punditry. He managed 2 out of 4, failing with Arsenal and Newcastle. In a popular newspaper, Harry writes: 'I also have
a wife and two bulldogs to feed.' Seems a bit harsh to speak of Jamie and Louise
that way." Steady, Denby. I do the jokes around here. Denbers then goes on
to praise what a wonderful job we do of running Cod Almighty, but I won't copy
and paste that as it's crude to blow one's own trumpet too often, one finds. Especially
in public.
So Denby takes this week's plaudits. He had the largest return and the most matches
correct. Well done, sir.

Mat's lead continues to be worn away by bad weeks and is now down to a little over a tenner. The CA readers are still around a fiver behind FART in second place. In terms of accuracy, FART's position is strong, 10% ahead of the CA
readership.
See, Denby did it. You can too. Be a CA tipper. Email tips@codalmighty.com.
