Getting there by car
 |
Don't know where Grimsby is? Grimsby lies on the east coast of England, just south of Hull. The two towns lie on opposite banks of the River Humber and Grimsby - like Hull - earned an early reputation as a fishing port.
A rough way to find Grimsby on a map is to find Liverpool on the west coast and run your finger right horizontally across Britain until you reach the opposite coast.

 |
The usual route to Grimsby for visiting fans is via the M180, which runs eastwards from the M18 - just off the M62 and the M1.
For the M18, leave the M1 at junction 32 or leave the M62 at junction 35.
To get onto the M180, leave the M18 at junction 5.
There are services at either end of the M180 so if you need petrol or snacks or the loo then stop off at the services at junction 5 of the M18. Otherwise you'll have to wait until the exit for the A15 - a good 35 minutes away - or nip into the petrol stations on the A180 outside Immingham.

 |
The M180 runs east taking you over the River Trent, past Scunthorpe, and on a clear day you can see Humberside Airport with the cement works next to it.
Once you pass the exit for the A15 (and the Humber Bridge), the M180 becomes the A180. This will lead you straight into the west side of Grimsby.
Beware - the stretch of road from the M18 to Grimsby is deathly dull and is notorious for accidents caused by people falling asleep at the wheel. Some point to the lack of lighting on the road, others to the monotonous countryside, while the more cynical highlight the experimental road surface that was laid in the early 80s (and has been in the process of being removed during 2006). Regardless of the reason, there is a distinct lullaby aspect to this road.

As you approach the outskirts of Grimsby you'll glimpse the chemical works that sit on the coast to your left. You'll also go past a metallic building just off a roundabout. It's in these fields that Town's new ground is planned to be built.
Keep driving on, past an industrial estate, going on at the two roundabouts you encounter. After the second roundabout you'll see a car depot at the dock to your left. You'll come to another roundabout with a flyover on the other side.
If you get held up for a moment you should be able to catch a glimpse of the Dock Tower in front to the left (if you don't catch it here you'll get a good look on the flyover).
|
 |
At this third roundabout you want to go straight on over the flyover. You'll pass the fabled Grimsby Telegraph building with its barely functioning clock.
At the traffic lights at the bottom of the flyover carry straight on and keep going straight on through the traffic lights. After a couple of minutes you'll reach another set of traffic lights with Ramsden's on the left. Go straight through these lights and you'll go past a petrol garage on your left. Blundell Park is a couple of minutes' walk from here.
It is street parking round Blundell Park so either turn left or turn right into one of the streets (be careful - some of the streets are one way so check before you zoom in) and park up.
Simply walk back to Grimsby Road and walk in the direction you were driving to get to Blundell Park.
Drivers from Lincolnshire, East Anglia and the south-east may prefer to take the A1 north as far as Newark, and then the A46 through Lincoln all the way to Grimsby. You might get stuck behind a tractor but it can be a shorter (and prettier) alternative route to the motorways. The A46 eventually terminates at the bottom of Isaac's Hill in Cleethorpes. At this roundabout you will see a low wooden building, the Memorial Hall, on your left. Turn left here and Blundell Park is a couple of minutes away on your right.
