Diary
Your day-by-day glance at the going ons at and around Town.
Monday 29 April
Down the M180, Brian Laws lets six players go including continually-linked-with-the-Mariners-by-people-who-don't-look-very-far-for-their-rumours Lee Hodges.
Sunday 28 April
Boston, Daryl Clare's current club, are promoted to division three ("the big time" as This Is Grimsby puts it). Derbies at Lincoln and Scunthorpe await them.
Saturday 27 April
Town are to play Hull City at Boothferry Park on Friday 26 July in a pre-season friendly.
Friday 26 April
New contracts are offered to Michael Boulding and Simon Ford, whose current deals expire at the end of June.
Former boss Lennie Lawrence gives a 'rare' interview with The Western Mail. "Grimsby did me the biggest favour in the last 10 years when they got rid of me because it meant I landed up at Cardiff. This club is infinitely bigger than Grimsby. Everything is totally and utterly different. There is no comparison. Getting sacked by Grimsby has proved a blessing in disguise. I'm not bitter about what Grimsby did. It's a lovely little club and I enjoyed my time there. They stayed in the First Division, so they will feel they made the right decision. It's a small club, so what else could they do? There was no money to buy players so you change the manager. You understand these things when you work at a small club." Do you miss him?
Thursday 25 April
Lincoln City release Alan Buckley from his managerial duties due to "financial reasons".
Tuesday 23 April
The official site reports that Paul Groves is being offered an improved contract by the board as reward for steering the Mariners to safety.
Sunday 21 April
Danny Butterfield scores to equalise at Millwall, but the Mariners eventually lose 3-1 in their final game of the season.
Saturday 13 April
Three first half goals secure a 3-1 victory over Burnley. A Boulding double sandwiching an Allen poach are the cue for mass celebrations as Barnsley and Crewe drop points ensuring division one football at Blundell Park next season. As promised the brick is shown to the full house, obviously taken aback in awe.
The Grimsby Telegraph says that the new stadium is two years away.
Friday 12 April
The club announce Conoco as the sponsors of the proposed new stadium. Red caps are to be dished out at tomorrow's home game, balloons are to be released, and the "first brick" (don't ask...) is to be paraded before the game kicks off.
Thursday 11 April
Saturday's game will be Ron Wylie's last as the club's public announcer.
Wednesday 10 April
The Town second string tied up their season with a 4-3 win over York City's reserve team. Robert Taylor, Iain Ward, Darren Mansaram and Jonathan Rowan grabbed a goal each.
Tuesday 9 April
Stuart Campbell gets a Scotland 'B' call up for a pratice match against Dundee United.
The club announces news of the kits for next season. The home kit features an orange v-neck collar, while fans are being asked to vote for their choice for the second kit through the official site.
Monday 8 April
The reserves lose 2-0 away to Bury.
Saturday 6 April
Debutant Terry Cooke hits a cracking equaliser six minutes from time to seal a 1-1 draw at Norwich.
Friday 5 April
Bradley Allen, Stuart Campbell, and Michael Boulding are all rated as highly doubtful for tomorrow's match against Norwich. The big news is that Steve Livingstone is having a day at Carrow Road tomorrow – a quick end-of-season bout of goalkeeper killing anyone?
Monday 1 April
Sheffield Wednesday defend stoutly to secure a point at Blundell Park. The game ended 0-0 with the Owls' Danny Maddix sent off early in the second half.
Saturday 30 March
Despite a spritely opening twenty minutes from Town, lacklustre defending hands four goals – and all three points – to Birmingham City.
Thursday 28 March
Willie Falconer signs a short-term contract until the end of the season after being released by St Johnstone, while ex-Manchester United winger Terry Cooke does likewise after being released by Manchester City. And then ex-loanee Robert Taylor comes in after being released by Wolves.
Wimbledon forward Paul Robinson joins on loan until the end of the season. The ex-Newcastle player finishes off a busy day of transfers for the club.
Wednesday 27 March
Former Town star Gary Croft has gone on loan from Ipswich to Cardiff City, joining up with former manager Lennie Lawrence.
Bradley Allen (hamstring) and Tony Gallimore (stomach bug) are doubts for Saturday's trip to Birmingham.
Danny Coyne became the first Town player since, er, the last one to make an international appearance with his half time introduction to Wales' 0-0 draw with the Czech Republic.
Tuesday 26 March
This Is Grimsby reports that the club envisages a near-capacity crowd for the Easter Monday game against Sheffield Wednesday.
Dave Beasant's withdrawal from the Wales squad for the friendly against the Czech Republic looks to enhance Danny Coyne's chances of at least making the bench on Wednesday night.
Menno Willems' written request for a transfer is accepted.
Saturday 23 March
The Mariners move up to 19th in the table with a 6-2 hammering of Wimbledon. After a wobbley performance in the first half Town were lucky to go in level at 2-2. Some "right words at the right time" from Groves saw the Dons under relentless pressure after the break. Adding another four goals, Alan Pouton and Michael Boulding completed their hat-tricks and the visiting keeper – Ian Feuer – was sent off after felling Boulding.
Elsewhere, former Mariners' defender Matthew Bloomer has joined up with former gaffer Alan Buckley at Lincoln, on loan from Hull.
