Up the Mariners

Front cover 'Up the Mariners' is the definitive song for Grimsby Town fans. Recorded in 1978 by a local group called Pisces and released on seven-inch vinyl, the tune is still occasionally given an all-too-seldom airing at Blundell Park (and occasionally sung by one of the Cod Almighty team after a few beers). Forget that 'Grimsby Born and Proud' effort from a few years back. This is the real deal, and not just for fans who can remember the team that comprised - to list a few - Bobby Cumming, Nigel Batch, Joe Waters, Kevin Drinkell and Gary Liddell.

Back cover Now, Cod Almighty, thanks to the considerable efforts of Ian Jackson and the wonders of the internet, gives you the chance to experience this wonderful piece of Mariners folklore for yourself. To listen simply click on the link below. The song is recorded as an mp3 file and will play easily on the vast majority of computers. If you are browsing the web using a modem, the file should take about four minutes to download onto your computer.

Do you think this is the best Town tune ever? Should the club be playing this at Blundell Park more often? Do you know any members of Pisces? Or are you a solicitor wanting to tell us we're infringing copyrighted material? Give us a shout through the feedback page and let us know!
