#18: Paul Robinson

14 October 2003

Mat Hare submitted this gurn of Paul Robinson while he was still playing for the Mariners. While Paul Robinson was still playing for the Mariners, I mean. Mat's never played for the Mariners. And Mat actually sent the picture to me recently, not while Paul Robinson was still playing for the Mariners. Erm... hmmm... Here's a picture of Paul Robinson which Mat Hare sent me while he was still playi.... bugger. Mat Robinson took a picture of Paul Mariner playing with his hair. Bugger. Mat Hare sent me a picture. It's of Paul Robinson. When the picture was taken, Robinson was still playing for the Mariners.

Anyway, the gurn below shows a little of what Paul Groves missed in his assessment of Robbo - not only did 'the new Alan Shearer' come back to haunt the Mariners, scoring a hat trick in the result that we shall not mention - you know, the one where Hartlepool beat us 8-1 - but Grovesie also failed to notice Paul 'Mrs' Robinson's fizzog-twisting potential. Robbo has a slight advantage anyway, possessing one of those old-man-with-no-teeth jaws, but here he manages a lovely 'I have been holding my breath for three and a half minutes and I'm about to pass out'. The art of a good gurn is not to be out-gurned by your opponent, too - and here we see Mr R obscuring his opposite number's contortion with a cleverly placed boot in the mush. Ah, what could have been, eh...
