#31: Phil Neal
21 April 2004
Sam Metcalf's latest contribution to the gallery is this absolute gem
from
the Liverpool vs Town FA Cup Third Round programme: 5 January 1980.
This is
when Liverpool were a big club, not only a paltry fourth place in the
top
flight. Oh boo hoo, sack your manager. It's all Phil Jevons' fault of
course
- most of the current Liverpool squad are still getting nightmares
about
Jeeves' 150-yard speculative thump sailing into the top corner. They'll
never get over it, some of them.
Anyway: Phil Neal. World class team, world class players, world class
gurnage. Even the LFC strip of that season had a collar which looked
like a
pro-gurner's horse-doodah. I really don't need to say much about this
one, i
should just let you take it all in yourselves. They say a picture
paints a
thousand words, and in this case, all one thousand words are
"NNMMNNUUURRRRRR!"

Do you have any pictures of players gurning? Have a flick through your piles of old programmes, scan 'em in and email them to us at codalmightygurns@yahoo.co.uk.
