9 April 2003

In this week's postbag reverse banners (do we stick them on the rear window?); David Burns have you no shame; all you can eat Buffy; yes sensei; more sport and less talk please; and the GETs!

Dear Sir/Madam,

I own a very successful soccer website called tellusthescore.com, which is an Internet Football Tote where players can win up to £1,300 per week predicting results of British football matches. I had been working on setting up this website for almost two years, which has been well worth the wait as in only 30 weeks of operating at this point I have 334 paying subscribers. Most of my players are from Britain, but we do have people taking part in our game from far reaching countries such as Nigeria, Israel, South Africa, America and Australia.

I was wondering whether you might be interested in exchanging Reverse Banner Links to both our websites?

My website regularly features matches involving English Premiership sides such as Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal etc plus Celtic and Rangers from Scotland. I hope this is something that might interest you, and if either yourself or any members of your staff are interested in playing my game, then they may do so completely free of charge. All they have to do is e-mail me and I will set up an account for them. We are hoping at some stage to have as many banners or links to all U.K. teams, whether it be official or unofficial websites.

Hope to hear from you soon. You can visit my website at www.tellusthescore.com

Cheers,
Austin

Now that Hull City are 12 points off the play-off places and only 10 points off the bottom two, can we expect Radio Humberside to spend every waking moment trailing the possibility of Conference football at the Kingston Communications Stadium next season?

I can't dispute Jo Tilley's observation regarding Buffy The Vampire Slayer in your postbag. However, upon closer analysis it seems that "Giles" is a fan of the northern form of rugby rather than rugby union, for league's rules are most comparable to "rugby with protective gear on".

Dear Sir,

Slowly over the past season I have become more and more depressed by the prospect of watching the team I support. Every season it is always the same, a relegation battle from the start even when the present manager has been in a position to buy players to bolster his squad.

This season the manager was given less than ever to spend. The result? Town at the lowest position they've ever been in going into April. Coincidence? I think not. If the current board hadn't been so prudent with their money in the summer and invested earlier, allowing the team to get the points earlier rather than later, then everyone wouldn't be sweating on the club's prospects once they get relegated. Things are not helped by the manager's insistence on playing his mates and negative absorbtion tactics which seem to have minimal effect.

Grimsby Town have been a first division team for many of the past 15 years, in the face of adversity and usually through the pig-headedness of a manager who didn't always make the most popular decisions but made many more right decisions - Alan Buckley. Paul Groves could learn a thing or two from the man he served for so long as a player.

Yours sincerely,
Ian Harness

Nice one on Talksport this afternoon.

"It's a BIG evening in division one. THREE games: Burnley versus Preston, Palace take on Watford, and the BIG one as LEICESTER and Forest meet in the TOP of the table clash. Tune in TONIGHT for ALL the action."

Except the game at Blundell Park. Obviously.

How the Grimsby Telegraph can say it does not need the club to sell papers is stupid. Take Grimsby Town from the back pages and there will be nothing left but park football (bless it) and a few journalists out of jobs. If they are looking at a sly cost cutting exercise though, keep it up.

Up the Mariners,
