Well here we are again, your ever infrequent letters page. Most of you have stopped bothering to
write in now, and who can blame you? Anyway, I promise there'll be one once a month from now on.
Can't say fairer than that.

Nice ground, still no fans
Clarence Park might not hold many, but I dispute
Paul Ketchley's portrayal of the place as a Deva-esque dystopia. It's a perfectly neat and pretty little ground, for which reason some of London's Premiership clubs make a point of scheduling friendlies at St Albans every summer.
I know a bleak non-League setting when I see one, and I saw one at Frickley Athletic the other week.
Mind you, even there, the catering is better than Blundell Park's.

Booooo Slade
GET: “Slade says Mariners were unlucky”; “did not deserve
to lose”. Can I have a pair of Slade's rose tinted spectacles please? Maybe a handout for the next
stuffing a la Conoco Stadium red caps a year last May?
They were diabolical. How many would have been there without the two free kids? Is there any truth
in the (hopeful) rumours floating around on Saturday that a new manager (with a bit of nous) could be
installed if Noddy fails to reach a certain place in the League (that’s Two, not Conference)?

History today
I'm not sure if your history of the mighty Mariners is as good
as it should be. Without doubt the best players were there in the 70s: Hickman, Tees, Worthington,
Boylen and Wainman were all heros to a lad of 10 years old. Did Town want a kid that no one had
heard of for £30,000?
Your historian also missed the fact that it rained or froze or both for every home game from the start
of the 1970 season until well into the 1974 campagn. Oh how I miss the good old days.

I've moved out of Town in the last two years. I have just
read your excellent site and was intrigued with the interview with Nigel Lowther. What does the
Rowson incident relate to?

How can I summarise this: Rowson wrote an article for the local rag about how Town were
cutting costs by not having an ambulance at the ground. It wasn't quite true. There was one of those
big hoo-hahs about nothing and then everyone kissed and made up. And lived happily ever after. Well,
for a few months anyway [Letters Ed]

Thing is, when you signed off to make out you were going to 'learn about smart objectives etc…' the

Oh my God, your site had me in hysterics - what a great blast
from the past. Me and my sister grew up in Grimsby but now live in Canada, although we still haven't
lost our roots amd have managed to keep many of those terms alive. But thanks for reminding me of
the ones I'd forgotten.
Just wondering though, what about "guwin'" (going) and the "maaaaahkit" (market, which could be
"freemo" or "Top Town" maaaaahkit). As
in: "am guwing to Freemo-maaaahkitt, ah ya gunna go wi' me?". Or even: "Me Mam's off to top town
maaaahkit."
By the way, the Peabung is still the World's best fish, chips & mushy peas.

We've all gone on a summer holiday
"End of season special - get all the
action from the rest of the season on World - All for less than £10, click here" cries the latest attempt
from the club's official site to wring the last jingling change out of
the club's fans. They've got some cheek given there was no live commentary on Mariners World
yesterday though.
Given the players have decided to call time on the season early, Russell Slade has apparently decided
to give the youngsters a chance for the remaining games, and Radio Humberside is ignoring Town to
concentrate
on Hull and the Scunts, the club's web department might as well take an early summer break as
well.

and Positive John being hoodwinked twice in a row by baldy men claiming to be football managers.

One of our lot? It's a fanzine - someone just contributed a piece for publication. And yeah, I'll do the

Drinking buddies
The actor who played Ned Glover is called Johnnie Lees
(I think the spelling is right). At one time he was the compere at the Sand's Club on Cleethorpes
seafront and he also did a spot at Bunnies Club. I celebrated the birth of my daughter with him at the
Sand's Club and lost two days! We put some booze away that night.
