Just finished reading "The Wrong Boy" by Willy Russell, the hero spends most of the book trying to get to Grimsby and when he finally arrives describes it thus;

Never understood why we stopped playing in red socks, really do distinguish us from the plastic strpeys of Newcastle and Notts.
