Postbag: reacting to the reactions

The postbag this time around provides the usual eclectic mix of feedback and enquiries. If you would like to feature in this page, send us a letter.

More Grimmo vocabulary
Right, try this snorter of an email that pitches just outside off stump and darts off the seam, which forces the batsman/reader to simply admire its precision. OK, no more cricketing analogies.

Just wondered whether these two words are possible additions for the Grimmo Dictionary – I haven't given them much thought but from a number of short conversations with various Grimsby and non-Grimsby residents I have decidied that they have potential to be localised to North East Lincolnshire.

Grog (n) – the product of spitting. 'To grog' would be wrong; grog was the saliva that either rested on the ground, on the window or on the back of a schoolchild's shoulder.

Gilly (n) – the product of a sniffling schoolchild's most recent nose-pick, which had probably been wiped on the floor, on the window or on the back of a fellow schoolchild's shoulder.

And another possible one...

Clatting (v) as in 'stop clatting about'. My mum used to say this to me and my brother when we would deliberately ignore her request to behave ourselves.

The loony liberals fight back
"rolling my eyes"; "sociology undergraduate's thesis"; "Grauniad-reading lecturers up and down the land"; "preening themselves and tut-tutting at the actions of 'mindless bigots'."; "stop being so po-faced"; "vociferous right-on types"; "arrogant little men and women in Westminster"; "finger-wagging." Gasp! Are you sure the Daily Mail isn't testing out its new "automatic non-story generator™" on the unwitting readership of Cod Almighty?

See John Wilson's letter (titled homophobia)in the last postbag if you wonder what Paul is on about.

Squad details
Evenin' All,
Haven't used your site for a few years, but now due to a move overseas, an endearing 'GTFC Patriotism' returns.

I even told persons here that GT were in fact were a Premier League side, but 'they' wouldn't have heard of them as they had finished just outside the top 10....no questions asked. Not that I personally would want much to do with the premier. Haha

Anyhows.....do you have a page where the squad is listed...and will be updated with facts, stats, and novelty info on previous clubs and fave matchday rituals???

Thanks

That sounds like a good idea... but probably too much like hard work. Other Town sites, including the official site, do cover similar ground. Have a look at our list of Town links.

Frequently asked question
How do you put the "Up the Mariners" song on your phone?

Jack Coupland
via email 23 July 2009

Me personally? I don't. I just keep my phone in my pocket, occasionally wondering why there isn't a lead coming out of it to connect it to a wall, and why there isn't a little wheel like thing on the front with holes that you use to dial with. People living in the 21st century tell me you need a phone that plays MP3 files: then you can download the song and set it as your ringtone.

More soon, so long as you write.
