Halfway House, just don't buy a sofa

18 January 2022

Did you hear who got man-of-the-match on Saturday? I'm thinking it was McAtee but even though we never leave early, we rarely hear the announcement. That was just the spreading conversation as we descended the steps from the upper. I would have given it to Fox. In a crowded field of decent performances, I thought he was immense. So pleased he has been named in the Vanarama Team of the Week. Thoroughly deserved.

In my head we had so many games stacked up, I was sure there must be one this evening but no, Saturday is next up. Whilst we have had postponements, we are not out of sync with the rest of the league. Shows how deluded my head was, or maybe I'm just looking forward to a game under the floodlights.

If you need your football fix the under-15s are up against Lincoln in the Floodlit Cup tonight in Brigg. I have only ever been to Brigg once for a pre-season friendly and it turned into a very expensive afternoon. I had ordered a sofa before we left and it wasn't planned. "Random" as the youngsters would say. Not sure there's a fourteen-day cooling off period if you buy it after football, so be careful.

Bromley on Saturday and there's speculation that they could lose their manager Andy Woodman to third tier Gillingham before then. If, and it's a big if, that happened what would be the impact on the mood of their players before the Town game? It seems the worst time to take on a team that has been struggling is just after the manager has been sacked. There appears to be a bounce in form straight afterward, probably players trying to justify that it wasn't them who were the problem. But Bromley are doing well so what will that mean?

Those of you who followed Town in Slade Part I may well have heard the strong rumour that the players found out he was leaving for the bright lights of Yeovil just before the play-off final in Cardiff. We then witnessed the worst performance of the season and a great weekend was spoilt by 90 minutes of football.

A continuation of last Saturday on the pitch and we won't need a helping hand, but I can't be the only football fan who spends an inordinate amount of brain capacity and time weighing up all the possibilities and nuances the will affect our league position. Ah the joys of being a Town fan. I should probably put that effort into something else but it wouldn't have those moments of pure joy would it?
