An army of the people is invincible

4 July 2022

C'mon everybody, it's 4 July, so sing along, you all know the words:

Bayang magiliw
Perlas ng Silanganan,
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay

Yes, it's Independence Day for the Philippines!

Do we behold the radiance and feel the throb of glorious liberty? We surely do as we carry on chuckling at Plucky Scunny replacing us on Devil's Island.

Remember, the route to the end of Mariner misery is consolidation over a length of time. When do they start selling Chairman Wow's Little Black and White and Red Socks book in the club shop then? It'll sell out in an hour, just like the new shirts for a new era.

Ah yes, where there is a yin there is a yang, for latent Nesbittry be lurking, festering deeply in the gut, waiting to spring out with a dead cat bounce from the ancien regime with Toytown Trumpite spin pouncing on shirt-selling success as a sign of failure. We must not forget that it is also important to unite with the middle peasants and educate them on the failings of capitalism.

Let us now pull back the curtains to reveal your daily wordsmith. Who writes in a house style like this? Yes, today, Matthew, your Diary shall be Deviant, a lone monk walking the world with a leaky umbrella.

Today may be various Independence Days, but it's also the day Town's full squad return to jog around Cheapside and team bonding officially begins. What's that under your hat, Hurstio? Oh hello Otis Khan, a well-travelled soul. Fans, buzzing, can't wait to meet the lads, etc, etc. Will Otis lift us higher? Who knows? He'll either resurrect a moribund career here or he won't; it's up to him, isn't it. He moves from place to place, meets people, gets into adventures. Young Khan, with your tattoos and tousles, use what you have learned for the needs and benefit of the people.

With Town season ticket sales much like my place on the Civil Service talent grid (off the scale!), we're rapidly approaching green seat territory. Home comforts, but what about abroad, what about the away-game scramble as fingers lurk over keyboards at 10am every other Tuesday morning for those golden tickets? No news yet on how our cultured club is going to square the impossible circle as we dream the impossible dream of feeding the 5,000. Alphabetical? Historical purchases priority algorithm? An away-game season ticket? Pure luck through the fickle finger of fate?

It would be nice to have it confirmed that they are working on a solution to implement before the end of the month, wouldn't it. C'mon Debbie, say it is so.

What goes around comes around. Where once Hurst recruited anyone who played for York, now the Mistermen are signing up stray Town-adjacent talent. Burgess and Crookes have joined The Shop at whatever they call their new ground this week. That's nice, good luck and thanks for all the fishy memories.

There's just different people coming down here now and they see things in different ways.
