Cod Almighty | Diary
Walking along just kickin' stones
14 November 2024
An eccentric friend of your Guest Diarist compared Cod Almighty to a fading, but still slightly gorgeous, old autumnal garden. Now the dismal cyclonic high pressure has given way to cool mornings with blazing red sunrises glinting through autumn leaves you could say that about the whole world. We are all slowly dying but the days remaining to us, well we can treasure the simple things. And avoid the Christmas adverts which exhort people to aspirational quick-fix food porn with groaning tables, much of which will get wasted. I make haslets to give to folk at Christmas, and grow extra sprouts so I can give all the neighbours an unexpected stalk. By the way, gentle reader, the actual stalk, after a good roast in the oven is pretty tasty. I am not virtue signalling, just saying that life does not have to be like in the adverts and can be just as enjoyable lived in another way. Like watching lower league football rather than the glossy stuff on the telly. Blundell Park is so much nicer than say the 'theatre of dreams' isn't it?
Fans will no doubt be secretly relieved that Town are away on Saturday. Newport's home form looks to be far from great and Town away lately, well....! Whereas home games follow the format of exhilarating mild peril slipping into pure jeopardy and ending in unmitigated disaster in front of a slightly sullen crowd, the away games are gritty, full-blooded and egged on by an away following which is numerous and one hundred per cent loud in support. It is always a grand day out at the moment.
The GTFC Disabled people have had another meeting to try to pursue their simple ambition to be able to get easy access to football grounds and to be able to actually see the play properly in relative comfort. Come on people, surely it is not rocket science - do something and do it quicker. The minutes contain the word vomitory. Possibly a first? I took 'O' level latin and the verb it comes from means 'to spew forth' which I guess makes vomitory a good word to describe the entry and exit alleyways. You learn something every day even in the autumn of your life. See yer.
