Yeah, c'mon!
7 August 2025
It is another sleepy, dusty delta day and here is your Guest Diarist fresh in from picking flowers up on Choctaw ridge. A lot of my favourite songs are like movies condensed in to three minutes. Last Saturday's match was like a whole season's best bits condensed into ninety minutes. There was something impressive happening the whole time on and off the ball.
Looking back on it after a few days, for me, one of the best bits was the substitutions. No changing the shape to 'protect the lead' but a series of like-for-like changes which demonstrated the strength of the squad and must have been most demoralising for the opposition. 'We want strikers', 'Grimsby look light up top'. Bring me the disco king! Mining the lower leagues with added data seems to have solved that one with minimum fuss. Quick, mobile, aggressive, confident. And smiley to boot. So far so good, eh?
Is it better to start well or to finish well? Best of all is to do both of course. Keep on improving, keep on progressing. Check your progress against your IDP says manager Artell. We didn't even see the best-performing player from pre-season last Saturday he says. Cancel my subscription to the resurrection - I am glued to Town, stuck in the eternal 59th second. No need to waste words at this stage, a hugely awkward away game in a couple of days. Time to hold our nerve and keep doing what we are doing. Let's hope the boys dance on fire until the musics over. See yer.
