Warm evenings, pale mornings and Autumn blues
30 October 2025
Woke up this morning, feelin' round for my shoes - your Guest Diarist has got those old walkin' blues. Autumn is great, the football has hotted up, the light is sensational on a sunny morning like today and the leaves are ready for kicking. A friend of mines dog gorged on acorns this week and nearly died. He was vomiting up his stomach lining at one point. So be careful kids as you warm up for mischief night, it is a dangerous world out there. I used to go out with my pockets stuffed with penny bangers - it is a flipping miracle I never blew my trousers off.
Town's cup run ended with a bang too. The club enhanced its reputation in every single respect bar a missing turnstile operator at the home end. The away fans enjoyed a free pint and got the whole Blundell Park experience. We got to enjoy that terrific Irish hairdo and the watching world saw glimpses of Town's brand of neat progressive football played in the right spirit. I can think of no better way to experience a five-niller. Pass and move is coming back. It is a hard thing to get right, especially when half the side is feeling a bit knackered after nearly three months with a lot of intensive matches. But they will keep working at it and in time I believe the consistency will come. It would be really cool if Brentford loaned us a promising youngster - they will have seen what a good environment Grimsby is to nurture talent.
Laughing and crying - you know it's the same release. Every day is another day to fly. And every day is another day to cry. You can learn a lot from songs. We win one, we lose one. We go again. I can't wait for Saturday, although sadly I will be listening rather than watching. But when you read the team sheet remember the kids are alright. It would be nice to win but if we don't, and it is someone elses turn to have a good cup run, well fair enough. It might even be Man United. It was very noticeable to me how their form improved after getting stuffed by us. I assume their manager learned a lot from watching Grimsby. See yer.
