Cod Almighty | Diary
Wrecking balls
5 January 2022
The reserves had a fine win yesterday. Obviously taking strength from the impending 40th anniversary of this, they Millwall-ed Walsall by going a goal down before winning 6-1. No match report on the new site at the time of writing but Twitter updates indicate we fielded a strong XI. Joel Grant and John McAtee strikes were among the highights as were, it has to be said, some of the responses to Ryan Sears's goal. You wags.
Elsewhere, the old SNOS drifts on like the Marie Celeste of websites, destined to confuse Fishy users for the next 25 years. How nice it is to see the club have its own new bespoke website and support a local business in the process. The site itself forges ahead with news of Sam Bell's return to Bristol City. Good luck to the lad who will be remembered for helping Cod Almighty achieve a site goal of a liked tweet from Zowie Bowie.
Sam's departure from Lunar Industries follows Ryley Towler's and could suggest that Paul Hurst, like Daubney as evidenced by the content of this diary thus far, spends time on Twitter. This from Si Stephenson no doubt caught the eye recently:

We all love a good loan signing to spice things up and show us which model of supercar a division two footballer drives, but the stats suggest we've gone too far. It's tempting to notice the division's pacesetters are at the lower half of the graph. Tempting also to draw on Monday's barnstorming performance against Halifax which only included one loanee. No guarantees, but that type of showing is more likely when the guys on the pitch have skin in the game. Might be something to consider as the January sales start.
Finally, the new site is using the 'refined' crest. It gets away unnoticed on the smaller images but the larger ones aren't floating Daubney's boat. That flag just doesn't look right. The designer of the original crest, George Palejowski, died in 2016. During a Twitter conversation last year, it was suggested that with the 50th anniversary of the crest on the horizon, the club should plan some sort of commemoration. This could include not just a marking of George's work, but a nod to the broader contribution of the Polish community in GY. Needless faffing with his design wasn't what we had in mind. Anyone who has counted the number of versions of the crest around Blundell Park knew a clean-up of the crest's design specs was overdue but, to be blunt, if George had wanted a great big flag on his trawler, he'd have stuck one there in 1972.
