January - a time for new beginnings
11 January 2022
There isn't a lot to like about January is there? We're all hard up, nights are dark and days are dank. Have you made any new year resolutions? Are you sticking to them or have they gone down the pan already? Add to that we've had a real dearth of games and it's probably no surprise that a few Town fans have gone a bit stir-crazy. Badge-gate? I'm over it. Not to belittle any of the discussions but my head needs to focus on other more positive things.
Town will help you celebrate Great Grimsby day on 22nd January if you have a voucher to take a friend to the Bromley game. A nice way to encourage more people along but I've never celebrated Great Grimsby day in my life. Having lived in the area for decades, I don't remember it was ever a thing so much as a way for the Telegraph to churn out some pap but "have a good one" if you are celebrating. Maybe we could do more in future years and make it a day for fans to do something for the area. A litter pick, collection for a foodbank, fun activities for children before the game?
Back in the mundane world, Alex Hunt has returned to Sheffield Wednesday, which is a heck of a disappointment. Hursty has explained that he would be keen to sign him on a permanent basis but at the time of writing it seems unlikely. Credit to the club for that ambition though. A pity that we have been through such a stuttery phase of the season over the last few weeks because it would have been good to see more of him. Enquiries about other players have been rebuffed but, in addition to Hunt, there is still another offer on the table apparently. It seems a really tough market for clubs trying to do an honest fifth-tier-level-funding deal, so we wait and see.
We've got a game tonight against those West Yorkshire Shaymen. Will it be déjà vu and a draw? As we're away, that would be a decent result but we've seen recently that we can play them. If McAtee is fit and up for it, then maybe we can go one better. They might have gone top but we have nothing to fear. UTM!
