January Recap
3 February 2022
Mr Target Demographic Diary writes: I've been on a few away days this season, Solihull and Halifax to be precise, but none built up the excitement quite as much as this coming week's away fixture at Notts County (I'm aware I'm stealing BOTB's theoretical thunder by talking about this weekend's game, but I'm really lacking for ideas at the moment). Having sold our whole allocations of tickets to Meadow Lane hopefully the atmosphere should not only be loud but at the same time spur the players on to break our hideous away form.
Bringing it back to last weekend's fixture I just wanted to weigh in quickly on a controversial issue from it. That goal was Shaun Pearson's. I haven't seen the highlights from the game but having been sat in the Main Stand right in line with the goal, my initial thought was "that's Shaun Pearson's". The evidence of my own eyes was then quickly challenged by the PA announcing it was Efete's, who I hadn't even seen in the mosh pit of blue'n’black'n'white shirts. And now it appears to be credited to Waterfall, who has another to his growing list of goals for us this season. If we're not careful we may end like last season, again having a defender as our top scorer.
Although the window has passed for Football League clubs we are obviously still able to do business. How much business we need is left up to the you, the jury, to decide. For me our window has been strong, we have strengthened in areas we needed and have brought in enough quality to begin pushing up the table once again.
As recently referenced on the DN35 podcast, aside from the upcoming fixture, February should be a period where we pick up many points given lots of the teams we will play are in the bottom half of the table. This is especially the case in a division where I believe there is a massive gap in quality from around 12th downwards. No disrespect to the likes of Barnet and Weymouth but I've been keeping a tally of teams that come to BP whose goal kicks either go out of play or actually stay in; let's just say teams 12th down often fill up the category of OUT.
Once again not my finest work, but with my A-level exams coming up I'll play the "my head's just not in the game at the moment" card. All this will all be forgotten come Saturday as I cheer on Paul Hurst's black and white army with all my voice.
Hopefully see many of you there!
