Cod Almighty | Diary
By Jove I feel like a jolly old stroll down to that Association Football
8 November 2022
Have you ever challenged yourself to do something that's so far out of your comfort zone that it still strikes you as a bit mad every time you do it? Yes? No?
I can think of a couple of things. Writing a diary most weeks. Might not be a biggy for many of you but, for me, writing prose and putting a bit of myself on that page is akin to that dream where you're at work and only partially dressed. You don’t have that one? Must just be me. Anyway, I'm a numbers and bullet-points sort of person and writing down my thoughts? I’m from Grimsby!!!!
The other challenge was making myself take up open water swimming in the middle of winter. Why, you might ask? Because I'm mad? Because I want to experience that pain? It seemed like a good idea and I can tell you now, it's not as cold as sitting in the Upper on a bitter, damp February afternoon. Blundell Park in winter has prepared me well. 11 degrees in the water? Positively balmy!
Enough of my musings, other than to say if you've ever thought of something you want to say about Town, get it down and off to Cod Almighty. Everyone's really happy to hear from new people.
There was much anticipation of the FA Cup draw yesterday evening and I bet Curzon Ashton was a trending search not long afterwards. It was never going to be a dream draw, we've just beaten the highest team in the competition at this stage. When I say beaten I do mean trounced, of course. Doesn't really matter who we get, it will work for some and not for other fans.
We still laugh about the last time we went to Cambridge away as a family and friend. I got lost trying to find the ground so wound my window down to ask some lad walking past. To be fair I should have anticipated his response when I realised he looked like the love child of Lord Snooty and Jacob Rees-Mogg. "Caaaambridge? Football? Ohhhhhh noooooo". There were reports of traumatised donkeys from miles away and two sniggering teenagers in the back seat who still laugh at the mention.
I nearly panicked when I noticed there was a game tonight. Don't be silly, the proper game was postponed for some ridiculous reason. I'm boycotting the pizza as well the competition, not that anyone would notice with the pizza. I'm just hoping that it turns out to be our "poor game following something fabulous" and we're up for it again on Saturday.
In other news, our game against AFC Wimbledon on 3rd December has been brought forward to a 12:30 kick off. Apparently it's so that it doesn't clash with a potential something in the Persian Gulf I personally have no interest in, but others may. I hope you haven't already bought your train tickets.
UTM!
