It's beginning to look a lot like - oh dear.
24 December 2025
Well here it is, Merry Christmas, we're on a terrible run. And looking at the future, it's only just begun. These words of Russell Slade have never rung more truly and more festively than today, Christmas Eve 2025.
Bromley. Being beaten easily by Bromley in the same season we beat Man Utd. I mean, being a Grimsby fan has always been an emotional rollercoaster but this is taking the cheese. I mean, no disrespect to Bromley - I'm sorry, I mean every disrespect to Bromley, the non-league tinpot chancers enjoying a brief holiday in success - but if we can't at least put up a fight against them something is amiss. Indeed, when it comes to our strikers every chance is amiss. Haha. Me make funny joke.
But I'm not here to moan and groan about our poor form. I'm here to spread Christmas cheer and remind you that, in the same way that yesterday is not today, tomorrow isn't today either. Things change. Teams have bad runs. Teams have good runs! Teams have great nights. Teams have terrible nights. Look at Wrexham or Stockport. Did they give up when they were shit? Yes! No, I mean no! In the words of Shakespeare, sunny days wouldn't be special if it wasn't for rain. No, hang on, that's 50 Cent. Shakespeare said 'the rain it raineth every day'. Thanks Shakespeare, I'm trying to cheer people up here and that's no use at all.
Look, forget inspirational quotes, can anyone tell me what happened away at Port Vale in 1999? Apart from Tony Butcher? Nobody. One day nobody except Tony Butcher will remember this poor run because we will all be excited by the new signing or the new season or the new fresh shiny hope that is always just one small kick of a football away. There's no need for an away defeat at Bromley to ruin your mince pies or your cracker jokes or your family argument or your annual game of Twister with your grandparents.
In summary, have a great Christmas, make memories and do good deeds. Feel the warm glow inside. It doesn't last forever. And remember, there are more important things in life than football, though to be honest I'm buggered if I can think of any right now. And remember, if Grimsby Tip can make Christmas as magical and special as this picture illustrates, so can you. Merry Christmas!
Mind you, if we lose to Oldham I'm going to have a right stink on.
